High purity ammonia gas is colorless, toxic, alkaline, strong corrosive flammable gas, with pungent odor. Ammonia gas can make the wet red stone drop paper blue, can produce a small amount of hydroxide ions in water, is weakly basic. It can be liquefied under pressure at room temperature (critical temperature 1324°C, critical pressure 11.2mpa, or 112.2 atmospheres), and is easily solidified into a snow-like solid, soluble in water, ethanol, and ether. At high temperature, it will decompose into nitrogen and hydrogen, which has reducing effect.
High purity ammonia is mainly used in the field of new optoelectronic materials and is an important basic material for GAN preparation by MOCVD technology. GAN produces high sensitivity blue light emitting diode and blue light laser.
Liquid ammonia is widely used in semiconductor industry, metallurgical industry, and other industrialand scientific research requiring atmosphere protection.
