Safety First: Nitrogen Purging Project for Large Spherical Gas Tanks

Safe gas purging is the cornerstone of storage tank operation. Chengdu Xenon Tritium Technology completed the nitrogen purging work for large spherical natural gas tanks, adopting a water-bath skid-mounted pump unit to deliver stable, controllable nitrogen injection and strictly implement full safety management throughout the whole construction cycle.

Project Overview The project covers two core working phases: natural gas replacement and air replacement for spherical tanks. The tank features an irregular internal volume and a tight construction schedule. Strict technical thresholds were defined: vaporized nitrogen temperature maintained above 5°C, nitrogen injection rate ≥3.5 tons per hour, with a total nitrogen input of 50m³ to achieve qualified replacement for a single spherical tank.

To meet the technical indicators and construction schedule, we deployed one set of water-bath skid-mounted pump unit as the primary injection equipment, supported by one 30m³ liquid nitrogen tanker and two engineering service vehicles.

Safety & Operation Standard Safety is our first protocol for all on-site gas operations. Before construction, we carried out risk assessment, site isolation, and equipped reliable breathing protection gear for all field operators. Every operation follows standardized work procedures and rigorous risk management protocols. During the purging process, real-time monitoring on nitrogen temperature, injection flow rate and tank atmosphere ensures all technical parameters stay within the safe range. Step-by-step gas sampling and testing are performed to verify the replacement effect until the target purity is achieved.
