Propylene (C3H6) Safety Precautions | MSDS Guidelines: Leak, Storage, Fire Fighting & First Aid

Acetylene is an important chemical raw material and an environmentally friendly refrigerant (R1270). However, it is a highly flammable gas (with an explosion limit of 2.4% to 10.3%), and special attention must be paid when using and storing it.

⚠️ 1. Hazardousness

Heavier than air. When leaked, it spreads along the ground and can re-ignite and explode upon encountering a fire source. It may react violently when in contact with strong oxidizers. As R1270, it is environmentally friendly but flammable.

📦2. Storage and Handling

Store in a cool, well-ventilated warehouse, keeping away from fire sources. Place the gas cylinders upright and secure them. Equip with fire extinguishers and alarms. Handle with care, avoiding dropping or bumping.

🔧3. Usage Requirements

Maintain good ventilation. Personnel must undergo professional training. Use explosion-proof electrical equipment and ensure reliable grounding of the equipment. In case of leakage, immediately close the valve and ventilate. Do not use open flames to detect leaks.

❄️ 4. Requirements for R1270 Refrigerant

The system is fully sealed and the electrical components are explosion-proof. The household filling volume is ≤ 150g. A combustible gas detector should be installed at the installation site at a lower position. Maintenance requires a certificate, and the system should be emptied and recycled. It is strictly prohibited to directly discharge.

Wear goggles, put on anti-static clothing, and wear anti-static gloves. Use a self-contained breathing apparatus in case of a large leakage.

🚨 6. Emergency for Leakage

Evacuate to the upwind area, cut off the source of fire. Shut off the valves and cut off the gas supply under safe conditions. Do not use electrical appliances or mobile phones at the scene.

Cutting off the gas source is the most effective method. Use dry powder, carbon dioxide or foam to extinguish the fire, and cool the gas cylinders with water.

After inhalation, move to an area with fresh air and provide oxygen if breathing is difficult. For frostbite, rinse with warm water.

♻️ 9. Waste Disposal

It is strictly prohibited to directly discharge into the atmosphere. The waste should be collected by qualified institutions. Empty bottles should maintain residual pressure and be returned to the supplier.
